From Morning Prayer:

Ash Wednesday

Jesus said to his disciples:

Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

“Thus, when you give alms, … do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing

And when you pray, … go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father.

And when you fast, … anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men.

(from the Gospel of Matthew)

I pray that this text finds you putting God first, comforted and giving alms, praying and fasting.

I pray that we may all have had a day of alms giving, prayer and fasting.

Please pray for all those listed in both parts of the litany from Monday.
